This project included a patio in the backyard, a new front walkway, and various stepping stone connecting paths (including one to hammock hung between two pear trees). The front yard had various grading and drainage issues that arose when the porch was rebuilt. We integrated the solutions for these problems into the design and installed drywells to deal with the output from a sump pump. In designing the patio in the back, we took into account maintaining the best areas planting, as the client is an avid gardener. Creating functional space while screening some views and highlighting others, is an important aspect of designing within the city.
